What Is a Skin Biopsy?

A biopsy is a small sample taken so a laboratory can help confirm a diagnosis. It is not a treatment by itself.
Why it is suggested
Unexplained rashes, persistent lesions or moles that need histological assessment may lead to a biopsy. Local anaesthesia is typically used.
After the procedure
A small scar is possible. Dressing care and a plan for discussing results will be explained. Waiting for a report does not mean a particular diagnosis; it means the clinic wants a clearer answer.
